Event Synopsis

IDC Asia/ Pacific is proud to present “Asia/ Pacific SecurityVision Conference 2008”, This cutting edge industry event will be held across 15 major cities in Asia Pacific focusing on the key theme - Next-Gen Security: Defending Against Enterprise Threats From A New Era.

Today consumer technology is fast outpacing enterprise computing, especially with popular consumer software and gadgetry creeping into the corporate world. With the advent popular technology infiltrating the workplace, the risk of security breaches are now greater than before. Are present security infrastructures in the corporate environment designed to handle these new threats? This IDC event will address how the convergence of business and personal devices has implications for data protection and security that can’t be ignored by enterprises. And how the Next-Gen Security can defend against these “New Era” threats.

Next-Gen Security: Defending Against Enterprise Threats From A New Era

Traditionally, new technology adoption usually start at the workplace spreading across corporations and businesses before filtering out to consumers who then adopt the technology for their personal use. Today consumer technology is fast outpacing enterprise computing, with popular consumer software and gadgetry creeping into the corporate world.

This prevalent trend can be observed from Blackberry, smartphone or iPhone wielding executives who demand that the enterprise infrastructure support their latest gadgets, to online enthusiasts bringing their blogging, social networking and file sharing activities to the workplace. Even hardworking employees are hopping on the technology bandwagon and using thumb drives to bring their unfinished work home (unwittingly causing a breach in a whole myriad of privacy and security regulations!)

With the advent of popular technology like Wikis, RSS feeds, mashups, Web 2.0 and other interactive technologies infiltrating the workplace the risk of security breaches are now greater than before. Introducing waves of security implications that are fast becoming a real threat never before faced by IT managers in the corporate environment.

Are We Equipped?

But in many companies, it would be against corporate culture to simply ban the devices or to block employees from accessing consumer services. At the same time, companies can't depend wholly on policy to maintain the level of security they need.

Are present security infrastructures in the corporate environment designed to handle these new threats? With many enterprises contemplating adopting and implementing RFID, ubiquitous computing and SOAs, across their business, which have machines interacting with machines, how do we equip our enterprises with the right tools and solutions to defend against these New Era Threats?

Latest IDC forecasts show that the IT security solution market is set to grow with a CAGR of 15.5% to reach US$5.9 billion by 2011. Enterprises across the Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) region are definitely spending, but are they spending wisely, and future-proofing their IT security investments?
