9.15am Next-Gen Security: Defending Against Enterprise Threats From A New Era

Linus Lai

Research and Consulting Director, IDC ASEAN and South Asia

At the Asia/ Pacific SecurityVision Conference 2008, IDC analysts, top solutions providers and industry experts will share their insights around the emerging security challenges and the security solutions to safeguard the enterprises. The conference topics will address some of the security risks that organizations should consider, as well as the latest trends and development in this area.

IDS research shows that the security market will be driven by a variety of factors, including the regulatory compliance, the growing complexity of IT infrastructures, the increasing diversity of endpoints connecting to networks, and the evolving threat landscape. Especially in this new era, with the popularity of consumer gadgets and Web 2.0 technologies, the trend of new devices and applications presents IT departments with increasing management problems and poses security issues for the enterprise.

In this keynote presentation, IDC will examine the solutions and best practices available to the enterprises, including trends and developments in web security, data leakage protection, mobile security and network access control.

Countering Emerging Threats in Cyber Space

Sukhdev Singh

Senior Security Consultant and Technical Manager, IBM Internet Security Systems ASEAN

Today’s online threat landscape is evolving at a pace that is quickly rendering traditional IT defenses ineffective.Cybercriminals today are driven by financial gain, not personal notoriety. Career hackers have changed their attack strategies to target businesses with increasingly sophisticated and stealthy threats that are aimed at stealing corporate information assets for profit.

Despite the plethora of products offered to counter a large proportion of threats that appear on an almost daily basis, why are security incidents still on the rise?

In order to successfully protect data and preserve network uptime in this environment, companies must look beyond the common fix of buying a new product to combat each emerging threat. This session will examine the next generation of enterprise security required to keep businesses ahead of the threat and share and recommend what business leaders will have to do to re-assess their defense strategies, and cater to the new threat environment.

The Future of Secure Application Delivery

Kunaciilan Nallapan

Product Marketing Manager, Application Networking Group, Pacific, Citrix Systems, Inc.

The traditional boundaries of trust for IT have eroded. Organizations are becoming more distributed, employees are more mobile and applications being developed today are becoming web-based. Well-defended network perimeters are no longer sufficient and newer application types may require additional protection. As the line between external and internal networks blurs, data protection must be reinvented and expanded to incorporate networks, applications and endpoints. In addition to solving technology challenges, IT departments must tear down organizational barriers and truly collaborate so the data security strategy can provide full coverage as well as flexibility for growth.

Addressing Insider Threats: Strategies for Effective Centralized Control and Visibility

Stephen Tang

CISA, CISM Regional Director, Asia Pacific ArcSight, Inc

An internal security incident is one that is perpetrated by someone with levels of trust and access greater than that of an outsider. Though the majority of publicity about security breaches today seems to focus on outsider attacks, insider threats can be just as devastating to the organization as attacks from malicious outsiders and range from information leakage to sabotage. In this session, you will learnt how SIEM would help you to detect, investigate, response and monitor insider activities and fraud control.

Leveraging Data Leak Prevention Technology to Secure Corporate Assets

Ieta Chi

Director, Business Development, Trend Micro Inc

Enterprises have deployed protective measures—such as VPNs, firewalls, and network monitors—to provide audit trails and prevent unauthorized external access to proprietary information. However, these solutions don’t address the rising threat from internal users. Because they have access to data assets, insiders are a major channel for information leaks, whether through deliberate policy breaches or accidental data loss (such as losing a mobile device containing personal records). To protect sensitive data, enterprises need an effective data leak prevention (DLP) solution that monitors potential information leaks at the point of use.

Unified Protection and Control the new Paradigm

James Wong

James Wong, Sales Director ASEAN, Lumension Security

New and emerging threats continue to impact endpoint security, which is a challenge that enterprises constantly face with security and support issues arising from endpoint users and their use of applications and devices. The security landscape has shifted from large, widespread attacks at the enterprise perimeter, to threats focusing on corporate endpoints, which are traditionally less secure.

Most data leaks and security threats occur at the endpoint because they are not properly secured. Securing your corporate end points requires software that enforces user behavior policies, so that enterprise desktops don’t become a doorway for sensitive data to escape and for security threats such as malware to enter. It is easy to block known security threats from your network - it is the hidden threats lurking on the desktops that require a different approach.

Lumension’s Operational Security Solution, Sanctuary Application Control® and Sanctuary Device Control® provides security through the use of a proactive approach that “shrinks the target” by minimizing the exploitable footprint on endpoint, enables only authorized applications to run and only authorized devices to connect to a server, terminal services server, thin client, laptop or desktop - facilitating security and systems management, while providing necessary flexibility to the organization to easily enable the use of new/upgraded applications or devices.
