Indonesian PC Market still dominated by clone PC's at 72% in 2004, says IDC

15 January, 2005

Jakarta, January 15, 2005 IDC predicts that the sustained expansion in the telecommunications arena will fuel expenditures on IT requirements, especially as the communications and media sector continue to hold the biggest share in IT spending among the vertical markets.

Moreover, results of a recent end-user study conducted by IDC pointed to a healthy outlook for 2005, with top corporations expressing an optimistic economic viewpoint as well as affirmative business prospects for their respective organizations.

The report, which is entitled IDC Predictions 2005: Top Key Trends in the Philippines Information and Communication Technology Market, lists down the year's top key trends in the Philippines Information and Communication Technology (ICT) market, one of which is the renewed business confidence among investors. IDC analysts predict that this will bring about significant uptake on IT spending, which is seen to expand by 11.5% in 2005.

The telecommunications market is expected to grow further as operators expand deeper into the mass markets and untapped areas in the countryside and fixed line operators explore new revenue streams. The next big developments in the telecommunications industry will revolve around the next wave of innovations using short message service (SMS) as well as regulatory and competitive dynamics in VoIP and 3G.

The market is also seen to witness the emergence of new industries in 2005, as noteworthy industries such as online gaming and animation services become more defined in the Philippine market. Meanwhile, the call center and software industries are expected to shape new paradigms -- the call centers evolving into total business process outsourcing (BPO) providers while the independent software vendors (ISVs) re outline the channel structures of software vendors.
