Asia Pacific (excluding Japan) Mobile Devices 2008 - 2012 Forecast Update: 2007 Year-End Review

The Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) or APEJ market is expected to surpass 400 million units in 2008, representing a 10% increase from 2007. By 2012, shipments will reach almost 500 million units. Despite the potential for growth, the market is entering a period of uncertainty in the short term, as poor economic conditions, ailing giants and expanding Chinese phone makers create both opportunities and threats in the environment. Over a longer time frame, more questions will arise as the emerging markets of the People's Republic of China (PRC) and India begin to mature."Although first-time users still drive a significant volume of growth in APEJ today, the balance will shift toward replacement users in the coming years. This means that there will be increased opportunities when targeting first-time upgraders who are looking for more feature-filled phones — but this is already a crowded segment eyed by the likes of LG, Samsung, and Sony Ericsson," says Aloysius Choong, research manager, Personal Systems Group, IDC Asia/Pacific.>>more

APeJ Internet Data Center Managed Services Opportunities - The Truth Behind Those Centers Part 2

The drumbeat of economic data and corporate earnings coming out across the world continue to paint a picture of an economic slowdown. As discussed in an earlier event flash (The Impact of a United States Economic Slowdown — Will the Outsourcing and Managed Services Well Run Dry? [IDC #207115Q]), IDC believes that this industry will be one of the more resilient ones in any slowdown for several reasons, primarily because a lot of outsourcing and managed services contracts are long term and are also cost savings driven, which become more critical during an economic slowdown. The wild card to this could be a sudden collapse in the U.S. economy that could potentially drag the rest of the world into a long drawn out recession. This could ultimately trigger a halt in new spending in "transformational" types of outsourcing and managed services that usually involve a certain amount of capital outlay. These concerns have been echoed, which is one of the potential outcomes that IDC has discussed in our recently revised overall IT spending forecast, and this could derail growth in the industry. At present, there are no dramatic or large-scale changes to the forecast compared with the one published in January 2008.>>more

Asia Pacific (excluding Japan) Infrastructure Services Market Analysis and Forecast 2008-2013

In this IDC study, we expect the Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) or APEJ hardware deployment and support market to grow at a rate of some 9.2% and will be worth an estimated US$8.4 billion by 2012. This growth will continue to come from the region's emerging markets that will be expected to continue with infrastructure buildouts, technology refreshes, and will enjoy the use of new services delivery models, all of which are discussed in this study. The market, however, will also have its growth impeded by some key factors. According to Eugene Wee, research manager of IT Services, "market maturity and a greater acceptance of outsourcing, consolidation, and virtualization and even Green IT are forcing enterprises to use less hardware or even take them out of the equation; this will impede hardware growth and therefore the services around the support of this hardware.".>>more
