9.00 am Welcome Address and Opening Remarks by IDC

9.15 am The Cloud and You: New Delivery Models Bring New Challenges
  Sudev Bangah
Research Manager, Consulting, IDC Malaysia
With cloud services and technologies maturing in conjunction with stabilization and recovery of regional economies, 2010 and 2011 are already proving to be launch pads for investments in the cloud. However, the lingering impact of the global economic meltdown combined with a lack of experience in cloud deployment and some ongoing concerns about the cloud are affecting the intentions of the early mainstream cloud implementers. However, strategies are being built now and new implementation challenges are becoming apparent and solutions are being sought.

Based on IDC survey data and client interviews, this presentation examines three key areas that are important to any organization considering cloud services and technologies:
  • How the shifting goals of business are affecting your technology choices
  • Cloud Nirvana, Reality or Mirage?
  • Leveraging the Cloud for Business Benefit.

9.45 am Cloud Foundations: Darwin is right!
  Frank Feldmann
Director of Business & Technology Solutions, Red Hat Asia Pacific/Japan
Red Hat's cloud vision is unlike that of any other IT vendor. We recognize that IT infrastructure is-and will continue to be-composed of pieces from many different hardware and software vendors that must work together. We recognize that customers want to grow and improve their IT systems and operations gradually. Red Hat's strategy for the Cloud is to grow the use of virtualization so that it is not limited to a selected set of resources enabling gradual transition to private cloud deployments whilst leveraging existing investments. While preparing the environment behind the corporate firewall, Red Hat is actively developing a safe and certified ecosystem of Public Cloud providers across the globe such as Amazon, IBM, NTT Communications. In a market full of hype, Red Hat makes the cloud real and compelling Today.

10.15am Venturing Into Cloud Computing? Don’t Forget Your ‘Security’ Umbrella
  Chin Kai Yi
Senior Security Solution Consultant, APAC, Trend Micro

Long before cloud computing became the word de jour, Trend Micro began offering security via a central internet-based cloud in 2005. Aspects of the Trend Micro ‘security in the cloud’ solution reflect a unique end-to-end security perspective, which makes building a massive an unmatched anti-attack database, deploying a variety of strategies to reduce and fight off attacks and even ‘hunt-them-down’ proactive techniques that cut off attacks from the source.

Learn how this cloud-based security solution, termed The Smart Protection Network helps you protect your users faster, and still keep costs low.

10.45am Networking the Cloud: A Down-to-Earth Reality
  Lam Chee Keong
Enterprise Solutions Manager, APAC, Juniper Networks
Whether it's a public or private cloud, one key factor that will drive adoption is user experience. The cloud application may have the best user interface or the most powerful features but if the network in the data center where the application is stored cannot scale and perform as expected, then the poor experience will just force the user to another provider or stall the adoption. Today's networking architecture in the data center is antiquated dating back to nearly two decades ago. With the evolution of applications, server technology and virtualization, it is not a sustainable model as it quickly becomes too expensive and complex to scale. The cloud-ready data center network addresses this challenge with its 3-2-1 architecture and will show how it is possible to have user experience without sacrificing the economics in order to provide for that.

12.15pm Cloud Computing IT Architecture Strategy Unveiled
  En. Hasan Ganny
President, IASA Malaysia
Cloud computing is becoming a promising solution especially in today current economic downturn for those looking at significantly reducing IT expenditure. The global appeal of cloud computing has grown by leaps and bounds, aligning itself with top business priorities, which traditionally have been about increasing profits and reducing cost structures. As one of the new, alternative computing models, cloud computing allows existing IT capabilities to be extended, or new capabilities added, with no or a low up-front costs as it minimizes investments in new infrastructure, training of new personnel or licensing of new software. In fact, Cloud computing are part of the evolution that started since days of mainframe and how you can take advantage of your existing environment to streamline and align better with your enterprise business goals. The presentation will discuss the strategy to embark into the Cloud Computing from IT Architecture perspective and how that can be translated towards delivering more business values.
